2001.WOMEN'S STUDIES.COM? 22nd Annual National Women's Studies Conference
Radisson Metrodome
University of Minnesota
June 13-17, 2001
2001.WOMEN'S STUDIES.COM?
As you may know the National Women's Studies Association Conference will
be here in about a week, June 13-18. The conference, hosted by the
Department of Women's Studies in the College of Liberal Arts, will offer
multiple concurrent sessions with papers, plenaries, workshops, readings,
films and videos addressing contemporary issues in Women's Studies. The
title of the conference "2001.women's.studies.com?" is meant to push us
into the meaning and struggles of this new century.
The Regional Steering Committee and the Site-Coordination Team have worked
for almost two years, and more hectically than ever in the last three
months, to produce a high-quality conference. One highlight of the
conference is an Embedded Conference on Saturday, June 16, on "The Future
of Women's Studies: Is It Feminist?" which will feature a plenary with
Robyn Wiegman (Duke University), Johnnella Butler (University of
Washington), and Sally Kitch (Ohio State University). The Embedded
Conference will also feature Future of the Field workshops and Future of
the Field Discipline Review Panels designed to be of great interest to
contemporary disciplinary and interdisciplinary scholars. There will also
be many sessions addressing cultural and cyberfeminist studies,
transnational and global analysis, as well as local U.S. cross-cultural
scholarship and scholar/activism.
Registration forms can be found outside Ford 411 or on line
at www.nwsa.org/nwsa2001 where you can download the registration
form. On-site registration is also possible at the Radisson Metrodome on
Washington Avenue which is the hub of conference activity. For students,
friends, and community activists, the registration fee is $55.00; for
non-NWSA members $170.00; and for NWSA members $145.00. It is not too
late for anyone to volunteer for eight hours of conference work to have
their conference fee waived. If you are interested in doing this, call
Kati at 624-1438.
Special thanks should be given to the Feminist Studies grad students who
worked on the conference: Jodi Horne, Kati Medvedev, Kim Surkin
(English), Dawn Rae Davis, sidney matrix, Marwa Hassoun, and others who
will be assisting with the final production of conference events. Without
the help of these grad students, NWSA 2001 would not exist. We have
worked very hard together, in real and virtual committees, and want the
conference to be a great success. Your participation and support would be
significantly appreciated.
If you have any questions about the conference, call the NWSA 2001 hotline
at 624-1438 or [log in to unmask] for further information.
