CROSS CULTURAL NEGOTIATIONS
Call for Papers for a Special Issue
(Deadline for submission: 15 July 2001)
Over the past two decades, there has been increasing movement towards
opening new international business markets, developing international
alliances, and expanding trade agreements around the world. For many
organizations seeking to seize these opportunities, the move has faced
many challenges, including understanding and managing differences in
language, customs, laws, political and economic systems, business
processes, and management styles. As world markets grow more
interdependent through mergers and acquisitions, formal alliances, and
franchising, these issues will also become increasingly important.
This call for papers invites authors to address the subject of Cross
Cultural Negotiations for a Special Issue of the Thunderbird
International Business Review. The Co-Editors will consider a broad
range of topics for this publication, including, but not limited to, the
following:
Comparative negotiating processes and behaviors
Corruption and ethical issues in international negotiation
International negotiating teams
Power and influence in international negotiations
Impact of culture on negotiation
Cross-cultural communication
Historical, economic, geographic, and political underpinnings of
negotiating styles
The role of governments in international business negotiations
Expatriate issues and negotiation
Preparing for international negotiations
Communication media/technology in international negotiations
Legal issues and the law in international negotiation
Multilateral business negotiations
Mediation and arbitration of international business disputes
Market entry and negotiation
Even though the Co-Editors will consider single country studies,
prospective contributors are urged to think beyond a single country and
focus more broadly on cross-national or regional comparisons, as well as
focusing on global trends and issues. Authors should keep in mind that
the international audience for this Special Issue will include business
leaders and policy makers; thus, papers should have a practical focus
and devote a section to the managerial implications of the theme that
they will cover in their articles.
Papers should not exceed 25 double-spaced pages and should represent
original material not published elsewhere. Please follow the TIBR
Guidelines for Contributors in the most recent issue of the journal.
Should you require an electronic version of the guidelines, please
contact Ms. Suzy Howell, Managing Editor: [log in to unmask] or
