PANELElectronic Activism: New Social Movements and Political Organisation
Online. Convener: Rachel Gibson, University of Salford , UK
The panel would seek to bring together 3-4 papers focusing on the use of the
Internet for political activism by non-conventional actors in particular.
Given the role these technologies' have played in protest coordination and
direct action against the economic trade meetings, particularly throughout
the last 2 years, it would seem that they have important consequences for
political activism. How effective they are for these groups, and how far
they are changing the nature of participation are important questions that
need to be more systematically addressed. If you are interested in
