Subject: CorpWatch Comes of Age
WHAT'S NEW ON CORPWATCH
Working to Hold Corporations Accountable
<http://www.corpwatch.org>
March 26, 2001
CUTTING EDGE ACTIVIST WEBSITE COMES OF AGE
http://www.corpwatch.org
Yes folks, that's us. Check out our new look, designed to make the
information on the site's 2,500 pages (and growing) more accessible. New
and updated features include:
*Highlighted campaign information on the:
*Climate Justice Initiative: http://www.corpwatch.org/climate/
*Alliance for a Corporate Free UN:http://www.corpwatch.org/un/
*Greenwash Award: http://www.corpwatch.org/greenwash/
*An updated Hands on Guide to On-line Corporate Research:
http://www.corpwatch.org/research/
*A Press Room for journalists: http://www.corpwatch.org/press/
*An Issue Library: <http://www.corpwatch.org/issues/> with great
information on globalization, the WTO, sweatshops and other issues.
*A new Bulletin Board <http://www.corpwatch.org/bulletin/> for press
releases from activist groups, announcements of events and more.
And there's another change: we've shortened our name from Corporate
Watch to CorpWatch. Now our name matches our web address. Besides, many
people were already calling us CorpWatch.
We've also simplified things and our whole organization (formerly known
as TRAC) is under the CorpWatch umbrella: one name, one logo, one web
address. We'll still be working to hold corporations accountable on
human rights, labor rights and environmental justice locally and
globally. And we'll be doing it better!
Our site redesign is very much a work in progress. We plan to have it
finalized, along with some exciting behind the scenes "back end"
technological changes, by the summer. Let us know what you think of the
new design by sending us an email: [log in to unmask]
And now for what's new on the new CorpWatch:
GRASSROOTS GLOBALIZATION
Zapatistas: Bad for Business
http://www.corpwatch.org/issues/grassroots/featured/2001/mespinoza.html
The Zapatistas took their road show from Chiapas to Mexico City hoping
to make their appeal for indigenous rights directly to the public. In
many ways it worked, their war of ideas got a needed boost. But the
Indigenous Rights Bill they are advocating for is still being blocked by
the conservative ruling PAN party. Yet, the "Zapatour," as their caravan
has become known, is a shot across the bow of both the Fox
administration and US corporations eager to set up business in Mexico.
GREENWASH
Philip Morris: Killing to Make a Difference
http://www.corpwatch.org/greenwash/awards/2001/philipmorris.html
You may have seen Philip Morris' "Working to Make a Difference" TV
commercials. The world's largest tobacco company wants us to believe
that its good works make up for millions of deaths caused by smoking its
cigarettes. Well, CorpWatch Greenwash Guru Kenny Bruno doesn't buy it
for a minute. As Bruno points out in his scathing critique, Phillip
Morris spends more on advertising than it gives to worthy causes. And
that's greenwash.

No Oil Development on Costa Rica's Coast!
http://www.corpwatch.org/action/2001/011.html
Tell Harken Energy Corp. (an ally of George W. Bush) and Costa Rica's
President to respect local people's demand for no oil development on
the country's Caribbean coast.
