Dear members,

For those interested in participating in a EU-funded project examining
business scenarios in the context of 2.5/3G mobile communications,
please
read on.  Otherwise, please delete.

We at the Centre for Research in Innovation Management (CENTRIM),
University
of Brighton, are currently working to build a Europe-wide Special
Interest
Group for the EU-funded project known as MobiCom: ŒEvolution Scenarios
for
emerging M-Commerce services: New Policy, Market Dynamics, Methods of
Work
and Business Modelsı. MobiCom is funded under the Information Society
Technologies (IST) Programme of the European Commission (DG XIII). The
project is being conducted by a multi-national consortium of academic
research institutes and industry partners, and co-ordinated by the
Athens
University of Economics and Business (eLTRUN) (see attached list of
partners). We would like to invite you to join the group at a level that

suits your potential interest or commitment.

The MobiCom project is exploring the fundamental factors that will
affect
the evolution of Mobile E-Commerce (M-Commerce) such as market structure
and
dynamics, key players, technology architectures, consumer behaviour and
new
products and services. Towards this end the following objectives have
been
established:

1. to ascertain existing factors in mobile communications and e-commerce

industries that enable or constrain the development of M-Commerce in
Europe;
2. to identify new development trajectories emerging from the
convergence of
mobile telecommunications technologies and e-commerce entrepreneurial
activities;
3. to identify, describe and evaluate new business models and services
(known as scenarios) in combination with the diffusion and adoption
patterns
in M-Commerce;
4. preparation of guidelines on regulation and policy in order to
facilitate
the growth of M-Commerce;
5. building of consensus, interaction and dissemination between
M-Commerce
Œstakeholdersı;
6. launch and development of MobiForum, the projectıs web portal for
collaboration and information dissemination.

The Special Interest Group (SIG) is being formed to extend the debate on
the
future of M-Commerce directly into the European business community. SIG
members will engage in:

1. online workshops to facilitate the crafting of scenarios and policies
on
the future of M-Commerce;
2. provision of feedback to MobiCom work-in-progress and results;
3. contributing insight and expectations for the future of M-Commerce;
4 six-monthly MobiCom conferences and workshops for the presentation of
findings and rigorous discussion leading to the refinement of scenarios
and
policy guidelines.

SIG members stand to gain:

1. privileged access to MobiCom project results;
2. a forum for raising expectations for the future of M-Commerce and to
debate consequences and concerns whilst contributing to European public
policy;
3. a means to shape MobiCom scenarios that will be disseminated through
the
project;
4. privileged access to MobiForum, the projectıs web Portal for
collaboration and information dissemination.

The Special Interest Group will operate as a closed group whereby each
member will maintain primary contact with one University member of the
MobiCom consortium (see attached list of contacts). SIG Members will
meet
in-person at six-monthly European Workshops and Œvirtuallyı on
MobiForumıs
various platforms including bulleting boards, online questionnaires etc.
The
MobiCom consortium will also run workshops and other dissemination
activities to exploit fully project results at a broader European level.

University members of the MobiCom consortium may also organise
additional
meetings for national members.

The success of the project will depend on tapping into the needs and
expectations of key players. You may like to consider becoming a member,
if
not a "lead participant" of the SIG. Lead participants will provide
critical
input to MobiCom research whilst gaining important knowledge and
learning
experience. Moreover, you will benefit by getting involved in generating

insight into alternative strategic directions for M-Commerce, in order
to
create new roles, infuse new skills and mindsets to the existing
functions
and adapt the organisational culture.

We invite you to consider this offer and to take the time to read
through
the attached information which will give you a clearer insight into the
project. If you require more information please get in touch. At this
stage
we are happy to receive an expression of interest which is sufficient
for us
to put together a programme of events/discussions.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Andrew Grantham
