Subject: Women on the Web
For Immediate Release
"WOW - Women on Web" - International conference to highlight growing
women- run Internet businesses
More than 300 participants expected at 20+ interactive workshops,
held on March 8-10, in Hamburg, Germany
Hamburg, February 21.02.2001
Men rule the Web- not so. Women's participation online is no longer
a marginal affair and Europe's female Web users increasingly utilize
the Internet for personal and professional activities. Establishment of
women-run businesses, virtual universities that offer gender-specific
curriculum are on rise, successfully leveraging the Internet and its
international communication and network powers.
Goal of this first, three-day conference "WOW-Women on the Web,"
is to showcase the Internet's benefits, both personally and
professionally, and to motivate a wider, European audience of
female Web participants. The conference's 20+ workshops and panels
include real-life accounts of European women net entrepreneurs
from the UK, Germany, Italy, Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic,
Sweden and Canada. Moreover, academic experts on socio-economic
policy and political leaders will share country-specific user
studies that highlight the different adoption rates among women
users in Europe and Canada. Gender-specific Internet initiatives
and strategic next steps will be presented to foster women's vital
contributions in the development and design of future-generations
of information and communication technologies.
The conference is spear-headed by the expert group "Women in the
Information Society" and sponsored by the German Federal Ministry
for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth
