CALL FOR CHAPTERS
Submission deadline January 15, 2001
Managing the Human Side of Information Technology:
Challenges and Solutions
A book edited by Edward J. Szewczak & Coral R. Snodgrass, Canisius
College, USA
This book of readings is the second volume in the Series on Managing
the Human Side of Information Technology (IT) published by Idea
Group Publishing. The purpose of the series is to address the
influence of IT in modern organizations and IT's influence on people
-- focusing on managing the human side of IT for competitive
advantage and organizational prosperity. As the editors of the
first series volume have noted, "Before committing additional
investments for more hardware and software technologies, managers
must assess the current value of IT in their organizations from the
human point of view. Management must understand how IT has been
utilized, and understand the value of its utilization. In support
of this notion, institutions (public, private, educational) and
all other parties involved must work together to expand the body of
knowledge regarding the human element of IT management"
(Szewczak, E. & Khosrowpour, M. (Eds.). 1996. The Human Side of
Information Technology Management. Idea Group Publishing, ii).
To further this expansion of knowledge is the purpose of this second
volume. Since the first volume was published, we have seen
explosive growth in Internet and Web-based technologies in
particular. As technologies emerge and advance, it is crucial that
we understand how IT influences people as well as how people
influence IT. We invite chapter contributions in all areas relevant
to the human side of IT management, based on research from both
academia and industry, including but not limited to the following:
Individual differences and IT
Workgroups and IT
Virtual communities
Culture and IT
Information systems education and IT
Communication and IT
Decision-making and IT
Motivation and IT
Human aspects of IT implementation
Quality of work life and IT
Information overload and IT
Society and IT
Virtual realities
Leadership and IT
User training and IT
