Secure Banking Applications using a Component-Based Approach (BANKSEC)
Component-based software engineering provides new opportunities for the
efficient development of secure, changeable and dependable Banking
systems. The EU-funded Framework V BANKSEC aims to define: (i) new
techniques for specifying dependability requirements for components; (ii)
trusted application frameworks that can accommodate non-trusted software
components, and; (iii) the necessary software and process infrastructure
for component selection and application assembly. City University London
is a partner in the 24-month BANKSEC project - other partners are
Lancaster University (UK), Athens Technology Centre (Greece), Engineering
Ingegneria Informatica (Italy), Telsis Investment Bank (Greece) and Banca
Popolare di Sondorio (Italy).
At City University we will extend our current PORE approach for COTS-based
systems development to develop a wider component procurement, selection
and integration process for the entire BANKSEC project. It will support an
iterative process of requirements acquisition, component selection and
component integration. One feature of the process will be to guide the
team to make critical decisions to select or reject candidate software
components. We will adopt a scenario-driven approach for modelling
requirements and using them to evaluate and revise different software
component configurations. Research will involve process and method
engineering, prototype tool development and effectiveness evaluation.
The successful candidate will require academic and/or industrial
experience in requirements engineering and component-based software
engineering, excellent communication and presentation skills, management
skills and interest in applying leading-edge research to real-world
problems.
Candidates should have a good first degree in computer science, software
engineering or another subject in which systems modelling is important. A
post-graduate or higher degree in one or more of these subjects is
preferable.
