I am building up an extensive collection of children's playground rhymes
as part of my work as tutor with the National Diploma of Children's
Literature (Christchurch College of Education- New Zealand) and for a
future reasearch project.
I am currently looking for variations on the rhymes beginning..
Shocking, shocking, shocking..
Temptation, temptation,temptation..
Dictation, dictation, dictation...
Diarrhoea, diarrhoea, diarrhoea..
The ones I currently have seem to follow a similar pattern
e.g. from 1950's (UK)
Temptation,temptation,temptation,
Dick Barton went down to the station,
Blondie was there
All naked and bare,
Temptation, temptation, temptation.
and recently 2000 (NZ)
Dictation,dictation, dictation,
A man had a big operation.
They pulled out his gizzards,
And thought they were lizards,
Dictation, dictation, dictation.
Would love some more examples, with approx. date, location if possible.
