Firstly, may I say that I haven't yet read the emails from last week
about my and other comments on Pauls draft document. I will I promise!

This note is a summary of the discussion that I had with Janet Strivens
regarding Accredited Key Skills (AKS). First of all, scratch what I said at
our meeting in Stoke.

The first thing that Janet wanted to know is what AKS's will appear on a
transcript - this is more a point of discussion for the professional
group which is why I have cc'd this message to that list?
It is clear that if, say, a student passes the EdExcell IT
level 3 as part of their Comp Sci degree and this is encouraged by the
Dept, then this will go on the transcript, but what would happen if say
a Comp. Sci. Student does a linguistics course off their own bat - would
this appear on the transcript or not - are there a set of circumstances
where this would appear and a different set when it would not?

Is there a list of the AKS that the authors of the transcript definition
had in mind?

Looking at the IMS definitions of both competancies and qcls it seems
apparent that competancies do not hold enough information to define the
AKS - there is no space for a 'level' or an awarding body (organisation)
or even a date for that matter, whereas the qcl class does have fields
for these values. The competancies data structure is excellent for
representing LEARNING OUTCOMES, the qcl data structure best serves
skills which have an accreditation.
