My apologies: yesterday's announcement omitted to say that abstracts
should be accompanied by a note saying that the proposals relate to this
particular panel. Here is an amended version:
American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages
(AATSEEL)
AATSEEL Annual Meeting
New Orleans
27-30 December 2001
Call for Papers
I have proposed a panel on Czech and Slovak music (broadly framed so as to
allow for multiple possibilities and, maybe, multiple panels) at the
AATSEEL conference at New Orleans in December; I hope that there will be
sufficient interest among those with an interest in Czech/Slovak music,
particularly if papers can overlap with other disciplines, to raise the
profile of musicology among our Slavist colleagues. (The panel proposal
is restricted to the Czech sphere not out of any sense of exclusiveness
but so that we fall under the aegis of the North American Association of
Teachers of Czech -- there is some advantage in this.)
Please submit any abstracts falling under this general rubric according to
the AATSEEL guidelines (these can be found at
http://clover.slavic.pitt.edu/~djb/aatseel/abstract_guidelines.html ).
They should be sent not to me but to the contact person for all panels
on Literature and Culture, who is:

Please include a request to be included on the Czech and Slovak Music
panel.
There is a system of double deadlines: abstracts can be submitted for the
first deadline, 15 April 2001, and can then if necessary be re-submitted
for the second (final) deadline of 1 August 2001. The system is that all
proposals that are accepted for the conference will be slotted in finally
regardless of the fate of the panel. The panel sessions consist of 3 or 4
papers with or without a respondent. The deadlines are summarized at
http://clover.slavic.pitt.edu/~djb/aatseel/deadlines.html .
And the main conference web page is at
http://clover.slavic.pitt.edu/~djb/aatseel.html
Please do consider contributing to this!
All best wishes
