I wonder if the Sokal dispute can be linked with the Bonnefoy discussion.
Perhaps it's a language/cultural dissonance. I would say that some
of the Paris intellectuals practice "magic positivism", a kind of
categorical thinking that moves around notions like chess pieces,
without a lot of grounding in evidence or proof. Comparable
perhaps to the empiricist smugness of Sokal et al.
But then I haven't read much of any of them. Plenty of smugness to go around.
