the obvious is always hardest to spot. If it's part of the natural order
that men should be the authority figures on tv, then it becomes invisible.
(It's nice eye candy to have pretty women on tv, Mark).
I didn't comment on Christopher's rape observation. I assumed he couldn't
be seriously suggesting this was a good thing. Moslem women have told me
that the burka, or other coverings, actually liberate women from such
things as the commodification/sexualisation that western women suffer from
etc - I can see what they're saying (sort of) but the fact is, if women
have to hide themselves to be liberated, while no aspect is the male
behaviour from which they have to be liberated is questioned, then that
liberation seems rather odd to me. No doubt that is my western imperialism
speaking.
