Yes, David, I waxed schmaltzy there I guess. Alisoun asked if it made
a difference. What I meant by poetry aligning with Life - well, I had
Akhmatova in mind at the time, actually. The idea that there is deep
acumen at work in the human race which deals anonymously with the
violence done to it by the forces inimical to it. A slow-working
acumen which expresses itself mostly in small tragedies of honor.
That poetry perhaps more intensely than any other form of writing
simply carries on the infant's project of enunciating experience,
with the awareness with each word spoken of an innate incapacity to
encompass its depth & complexity. But it's that project of baby talk
which aligns with the deep acumen & sounds its unisons.
