Hi Ben,
Whilst Stan correctly states that Bb is changing, I would guess that the
basic system will remain the same for installation. I would therefore like
to remind you of the problem we had when moving from CourseInfo to Bb 5
level 1. The installation told us it was going to overwrite the existing
database so we had to transfer all the courses over from the CourseInfo
server. This caused us problems with duplicate users and even many existing
users ended up having their passwords scrambled. This resulted in the
problem of users having to get their passwords re-set. I was also not given
any real help from support, so we just had to weather the tide of requests
on a (slooowww) manual basis.
regards
Paul

Subject: upgrading from level 1 to 3
>>> hi all >>>
Has anyone upgraded from Bb level 1 to level 3?
We are about to do (over Xmas) and I have a specific, fairly obvious
question:
Is existing user and course data picked up automatically once
you instal level 3?
In other words, can you simply overwrite previous installation and
assume Bb will pick up existing course content and user information?
We are, of course, backing up all courses into archives. But I would
rather avoid having to manually import these if possible - it will be
_another_ very laborious task and certain things are lost - e.g. time of
discussion postings.
I should point out I can find no mention of this in the installation
documentation for level three ;-) There is info about migrating from
course info versions to Bb5 but nothing about moving up levels.
I hope someone can answer this seemingly simple question.
I know Bb staff are on this list - as I have received their auto replies
:-) Halyna....?
