Just have to make a point here. Finale *is* incredibly and
needlessly complex. This cannot be denied. But there is a reason
for that: Power. It will do *anything*.
The question is always, do you NEED that power? For the Mac, for
instance, Finale is the only program capable of doing proper music
notation combined with tablature for instruments other than guitar.
I would say the choice is simple: Decide what you need. If it's
very common, and doesn't involve tablature, anything will do.
If it's strange, well, you have to bite the bullet and buy
Finale.
BTW -- there are *huge* academic discounts on Finale. About
70%, back when I bought it.
