Malcolm (and all 144 others),
Great! I am eager to contact the Spencer Research
Library.
I am still puzzled. I have seen some beautiful
ballads -- printed in color, etc. Why didn't Brereton
care about quality? Did he print for 'homeless'
singers who brought songs to him to print? Did he
sell the ballads directly to people on the street?
Was he a singer? Is the quality poor because of the
resources he had available? Did he print for a
living? Was he politically or economically motivated?
Both? I know that you'd probably have to guess at
these answers, but if you have a guess, I'd love to
hear it!
Thanks again,
Jen
