Dear Physics and Astronomy Academics

As a follow-up to my email dated 28-09-01, here is further some
information regarding the future phase 4 bidding for FDTL funding.

The HEFCE has now published the invitation to bid for Phase 4 of
the Fund for the Development of Teaching and Learning (FDTL).
Details of which can be found on the HEFCE website at,

The submission deadline for the first stage of applications is
25th January 2002.

Can I remind you that a diccussion list has been set up for the
physics and astronomy community, PhyscSci-FDTL, which you can
join from the JISCmail website,

Re: FDTL4 Meeting 28-11-01 (up-to-date)

We would also encourage you to come along to the briefing
meeting on Wednesday 28 November in collaboration with the
Mathematics community. This is being held at the Strawberry
Hotel, Main Road, Meriden, Coventry. This is located near
Birmingham International Airport and Train Station as can be
located on the map at

http://www.strawberrybank.co.uk/fr_location.htm.

There will be no charge for attendance, and travelling costs
will be subsidised. Accommodation will also be provided free
of charge to those who wish to stay overnight for extended
discussions.

We have made provisional reservations for this, but would ask
you to confirm attendance as soon as possible.

This meeting is intended for those submitting bids and their
collaborators, and for others who might be interested in
becoming involved.

Provisional Programme

10.30   Registration and coffee

11.00   Welcome from Dick Bacon (LTSN Physical Sciences) and
        John Blake (LTSN Maths, Stats & OR Network)

11.15   Understanding the circular and preparing for a project
        Alison Holmes,FDTL National Coordinating Team.

11.45   Issues na processes of writing a bid
        Sue White, University of southampton, a coordinator from a
        successful FDTL3 project.

12.15   Question and answer panel session with all speakers plus
        Richard Blackwell of the LTSN Generic Centre

12.45   Lunch

13.45   Onwards - After lunch we will split into discipline groups
        to have further discussions.

Our hope is that this meeting will help improve the quality
of the bids to be submitted by discussion of different aspects
of the projects and of management issues.
