Inclusive Design of a Hospital Portal Serving Patient Needs for Information,
Communication and Entertainment
As a result of a collaboration with Unicorn Hospital Communications Limited,
a hospital portal has been developed for installation in NHS hospitals, to
provide information, communication and entertainment to patients during
their stay via a mix of telephony, TV & film, radio, shopping, Internet, and
e-mail. This multi-disciplinary project is concerned with the research,
development and evaluation of a 'design for all' interface to the hospital
portal such that all members of the patient community may benefit from the
system.
Ref R0187: Graphical User Interface Designer to develop the design- with
regard to user requirements gathering and iterative evaluations of the
portal. Experience in graphical user interface design and programming is
essential.
Ref R0188: Health/Social Care Professional, Clinical/Academic Psychologist,
or Social Scientist to work with patient groups to gather requirements for
and evaluate usability of the portal. Experience of qualitative and
quantitative research is essential. Familiarity of working within a
healthcare environment or with the elderly/disabled is desirable.
