Hi
At the University of Bradford, we have had an approach on behalf of a
voluntary committee about the marketing of the cemetery which they look
after!
I quote from an internal e-mail from a colleague who was originally
approached:
"Undercliffe Cemetery is a registered Heritage Site (1998) and a
recognised Charity.
It is a Victorian 'treasure' with many local and national dignitaries
buried in 'magnificence' there.
They would like some (free) advice on how to market the 26 acre
cemetery better to increase membership (Friends of Undercliffe
Cemetery!) and gain financial support from industrial and private
benefactors. Their only other source of income is by selling burial
plots with only 24-30 left (presumably 30 skinny bodies or 24 larger
ones?) and there are costs for its upkeep. Much of the upkeep is done
by volunteers and part of the advice could be how to increase interest
among groups (Roundtablers, etc or Scout/Guide groups or other civic
minded groups) to adopt a part of the cemetery. (This would not include
the adoption of the interree or his/her relations!)."
I'm happy to talk about general marketing issues with the committee, but
was curious to know whether there might be another list member who has
some specialist knowledge, either academic or practitioner, in this
area, and might be willing to share some ideas?!
Any constructive suggestions will be very gratefully received! - de
mortuis nil nisi bonum etc
