Hi
Just for clarification purposes, JISCmail netiquette as mentioned in our
'intro' file, requests that the e-list service not be used for
'commercial advertising'.
At present, this list is not moderated, so any member can post anything
s/he likes. I (and I'm sure Tony Conway, the other main list
co-ordinator) would prefer not to have to moderate everything that comes
to the list - a case of life is too short for moderation? ;-)
If list members are in doubt whether a posting might be considered to be
commercial advertising or 'spam', there is an option - they can send the
posting to:
[log in to unmask]
The '-request' bit means that Tony and I see the posting and can then
moderate it (at least that's the theory, sometimes stuff seems to leak
through - but then Jiscmail service quality is not quite what the
previous Mailbase system was).
Because:
- we are a small community (ca. 130 now)
- we are still building awareness of what each other does
I would probably tend to err on the side of posting to the list
'-requests' that come to me if they seem to be:
- on-topic (in a reasonably broad sense), and
- not *too* flagrantly commercial
I will try to remember to signal this kind of posting in the Title field
so that people can hit the delete button if they wish.
However, if this liberal (or should that be 'downright sloppy!' ?)
approach gets up people's noses, we can drop it.
[Having said all that, I wasn't aware of City Univ's course, and was
interested to learn about it!]
I hope this helps, but if anyone wants to comment further on the list or
via the backchannel, please feel free to do so.
Best wishes
