Pro-Rectors
Academic Affairs and Research; Commerce and Enterprise; Finance and
Resources

Salary up to £100,000
London

The London Institute comprises five outstanding colleges of arts,
communications and design, providing education and research support for the
UK's creative industries.  Many of the UK's leading creative practitioners
are graduates of the Institute.  It has an income of around £80 million and
more than 25,000 students from 100 different countries.  

Our aim is to be the world's leading centre for learning in the arts, design
and communications - and our new Rector, Sir Michael Bichard, is now
building the team to make those ambitions a reality.  We need people who
will share the excitement of our ambitions and of the world we operate in.
The Pro-Rectors will make a strong contribution to the corporate management
team as it shapes our future strategy.  

Pro-Rector, Academic Affairs and Research (ref. 4628)

This is a new, broad-based and influential role, leading on our Learning and
Teaching Strategy.  The remit covers academic standards and quality,
research development and support, library and learning resources and student
services. 

The Institute offers an exciting range of courses from Access to PhD.
Working closely with the colleges, you will help ensure that the range of
specialist courses we offer meets the needs of our students.  Your
innovative approach will help realise the full academic and commercial
potential of our research activities.  You will bring strategic and
imaginative flair to developing our library and learning resources and
student services to enhance learner support. To succeed in this role, you
will draw on a successful track record in higher and/or further education. 

Pro-Rector, Commerce and Enterprise (ref. 4662)

In this new role, you will bring a commercial focus to extract the maximum
potential from our current enterprises (turnover £7 million).  We need a
strategic, innovative and entrepreneurial approach to open up new
income-generating activities such as e-learning and intellectual property.
Your remit also includes communications and marketing.

You are likely to have an awareness of the higher and further education
sectors, but equally important will be your track record of successful
business development and change management - all underpinned by a
collaborative approach. You'll also bring the leadership, management and
creative skills to develop the market position and distinctive branding of
the Colleges and the Institute both nationally and internationally. 

Pro-Rector, Finance and Resources (ref. 4663)

Your remit will include finance and a range of other central and corporate
services.  Your background could be in any relevant discipline, and need not
be in higher or further education.  You will have wide experience of
resource management, with a track record of success at senior level.

We have stable finances, with ambitious plans for a capital programme in
estates development.  You will be responsible for defining and implementing
a financial and resource management strategy that enables the Institute to
make its vision a reality.  You will be a natural team player, with the
presence and credibility to lead and motivate professional staff, and with
well-honed strategic and analytical skills. 

RECRUITMENT PROCESS

All applications will be acknowledged. A selection board under the
chairmanship of Sir Michael Bichard will meet to consider applications, and
PricewaterhouseCoopers will advise all applicants on the outcome of their
application by the week commencing 14 January 2002.  Selected candidates
will then be invited to a first interview at PricewaterhouseCoopers. The
selection board will meet to agree the shortlisted applicants, and all
remaining applicants will be advised accordingly.  It is anticipated that
the final selection board will take place in the week commencing 18 February
2002.
