Looking at it from both the local and national history side of things ...
the
1931 and 1941 census records do not survive in England and Wales (the 1931
does in Scotland I believe), and the 1939 Register of Civilians maintained
throughout the war was I believe destroyed apart from a small sample.
Maintaining storage for this material must be a problem (not that I know
anything about it really ...) but eventually historians both local and
otherwise will *need* access to information such as this. What other sources
are going to be available? I know in Scotland yearly valuation rolls survive
both in the National Archives and in many if not all of the local authority
archives - and I doubt whether there would be any question of weeding them
...
