London Archive Strategy
The London Archive Strategy Out of the Past - Into the Future: Priorities
for Archive Development in London is in the process of being designed and
published. It is hoped that an electronic version of the report will be
available shortly with the published copy sent to members in September. LARC
gratefully acknowledges the financial assistance of BT in the production of
this report.
London Learning Support Unit
April 2002 will see the creation of 'Regional Learning Support Units' for
museums, archives and libraries in all the English regions. London archives
have the opportunity to shape the work of the London Learning Support Unit
through the completion of the questionnaire 'Learning about London' which
repositories should have received in July. The proportion of responses so
far from archives has been substantially lower than those received from
museums and libraries. It is vital that the archive sector takes part in
this process to ensure that the Unit will respond to the needs of
archivists, archive repositories and our users. It is important that
repositories without education staff or services respond, as well as those
who do have dedicated provision. A series of focus groups have also been
arranged across London in September and October, if you would like to be
involved please contact Emma Halsall at the above address, further copies of
the questionnaire can also be provided.
Black History Month
Is your repository involved in Black History Month in October 2001? The
Greater London Authority is planning a co-ordinated marketing campaign to
raise the profile of this festival, if you would like to be involved please
contact the GLA officer who is working on this project Carlton McLeary,
Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY Tel: 020 7983 4000. The
CASBAH project is also undertaking a mapping exercise of events, services
and activities being held to celebrate Black History Month. If your
repository is organising an event the CASBAH staff would like to know about
it. Please send the name of your event, date, time, venue, a short
description and contact details by email to [log in to unmask] or by telephone
on 020 7862 8824.
