> The Public Record Office (PRO) is expanding its electronic records team
> to support its work in achieving electronic records management across

>
> One of the fundamental aims of the Public Record Office (PRO)
>  is to advise government departments on information management
>  and policy issues.  This has achieved particular prominence in
>  recent months as all government departments and agencies
> prepare to introduce electronic document and records management.
> This is a core element of the e-Government agenda and one which
> has the attention of ministers and civil servants at the highest levels.
> The PRO is working closely with the Office of e-Envoy to ensure
>  information management is fully integrated with plans for e-business
>  and electronic service delivery.

> The e-records programme, located within Records Management
> Department (RMD), is primarily focused on ensuring government
> achieves the Modernising Government target that, by 2004
>  "all newly-created public records in government departments
> will be electronically stored and retrieved." The Electronic Records
>  Team is responsible for delivering the e-records programme,
> which involves:
> *     defining formal policy and standards - the foundation for all
> departments and agencies
> *     supporting government departments and agencies in their activities
> by providing advice and guidance and developing practical toolkits

> Role of these posts
> Records Management Department is looking for people who
> can contribute to and support activities within the e-records
> programme. These are newly created posts which will provide
> individuals with experience of a fast developing area which is central
> to the progress of electronic government.

> Electronic Records Team, supporting a range of activities that
> may be drawn from all areas of the e-records programme.
>  Successful applicants will have the opportunity to undertake
> specific small projects with defined outcomes, for which they
>  will have particular responsibility.

> Depending on skills, interests and experience, postholders
>  will undertake some of the following:
> *     taking part in the formal evaluation and testing of electronic
> records management system packages - this is a highly successful
> and influential programme with suppliers continually coming
> forward for PRO approval
> *             administering and helping to develop use of the electronic
>  records management system (TRIM Captura) installed in Records
> Management Department
> *     contributing to the development of tools and
> resources for use in implementing electronic records management
> in government departments
> *     developing case studies and capturing 'lessons learned'
> in departmental progress
> *     assisting with the monitoring of progress in government
>  departments towards the 2004 target
> *     assisting with the technical evaluation of electronic
>  record sets selected for transfer to the PRO
> *     other duties as applicable

> Person specification
> Candidates should be able to demonstrate:
> Essential
> *     understanding of information management
> principles and their application in practice
> *     good logical and analytical abilities in thinking and expression
> *     ability to co-operate flexibly as part of a team
> *     good IT literacy skills
> *     good oral and written communication skills
>
>
> Desirable
> *     interest in the public sector information environment
> *     experience and/or qualification in information management, records
> management, or an equivalent field
> *     practical experience in use of office and/or database systems
> *     willingness to develop understanding of newly emerging technologies
> and their application
