Dear Colleagues
Please could you pass this notice onto anyone you feel might be interested
in the post without access to the listserve. We are hoping to appoint
someone as soon as possible.
The Bill Naughton Archive was purchased with the help of funding from the
Heritage Lottery Funding by Bolton Metro last year. The funding also
provided a 12 month cataloguing post of which 9 months will have been
completed by the beginning of July. We are looking for a qualified archivist
with an interest in literary collections to help complete the last 3 months
of the contract, July-September 2001. The salary will be at local authority
scale 6, £17, 220 - £18, 372.
Bill Naughton was brought up in Bolton and took part in the mass-observation
project in the 1930s. He later wrote novels and then plays for radio, TV and
stage. Some such as 'Alfie', 'Spring and Port Wine' and 'The Family Way'
became successful films. He published 3 volumes of autobiography depicting
his early life in Bolton among many other short stories and novels,
including 'The Goalkeeper's Revenge' a collection for children.
The job would involve cataloguing the remaining parts of the collection with
direction from the previous cataloguer and helping with the organisation of
the launch, open day and exhibition planned for the 3rd September 2001.
There will also be opportunities for general duties such as searchroom
supervision and enquiry work. The catalogue has been input using CALM
software and will be available over the Internet.
If you are interested in the above position please contact Bolton Archives
and Local Studies Unit on 01204 332179 to speak to Kevin Campbell or
Samantha Collenette. Alternatively contact the Chief-Librarian Yvonne
Gil-Martin on 01204 332169 for further details.
Thanks
Sam Collenette
