Just to allay any remaining fears:
I have today had a productive meeting with both Mrs Bewick and
her husband. It was never her intention to collect records but
rather to transcribe log books and admission registers as an
adjunct to her main interest, which is the website. The
photographs displayed there were mainly sent to her as electronic
copies; again, she has no originals other than those taken herself
this year with a digital camera. Although information is sent to her
from around the world she is concentrating her initial efforts on the
former county of Glamorgan, her local base. I shall be actively co-
operating with her to mount information about the Glamorgan
Record Office and its holdings onto the website. I am also happy
to liaise with Mrs Bewick on behalf of colleagues, since she lives in
Cardiff.
I hope the UKSHG website will grow into a valuable tool for
researchers; it is already being used by schools as well as the
genealogists for whom it was originally founded. Record Offices
stand to benefit both in terms of dissemination of information and
through potential additions to their schools collections. So, no
need, as it turns out, for external intervention, but thanks to all for
your concern and advice.
Anyone seeking further information is welcome to contact me. Off-
list, of course.
