In prepration for a bid to the HLF to develop a UK archival
thesaurus based on the UNESCO Thesaurus, I'm trying to gather
some data on the use of the UNESCO Thesaurus in UK archives.
I'd be very grateful to hear (off list) from UK archives which are
using the UNESCO Thesaurus for subject indexing, and in
particular:
- whether you just use the "basic" UNESCO Thesaurus without
adding any terms of your own;
- whether, in addition to using UNESCO, you've also indexed using
your own local terms and/or terms drawn from other controlled
vocabularies;
- and if you've indexed using both UNESCO terms and non-
UNESCO terms, whether you can supply any data on the
proportions of UNESCO and non-UNESCO terms in your subject
index.
With apologies for cross posting,
Peter Garrod
