I fully endorse Sarah's comment about Regional meetings - and reading the
papers is a very poor substitute for being there, so do try to go. They
were my vital link with everyone when I was a one-person office and I miss
them very badly.
I didn't take it particularly personally (especially as Nigel of all people
was there with me) but still feel the urge to explain! I don't get myself
these days because a) it would cost between £88 and £216 on the plane plus
any further transport etc costs - and a day or more out of the office for
weekday meetings - and b) I am not working in the UK and with the increasing
(understandable) 'politicisation' of the Society and the blurring of the
edges between the Society and other bodies they are increasingly less
relevant.
While I try to keep up with Lottery Funding, Resource, Regional Councils,
Regional Policies, A2A, etc etc as they are clearly developments of
importance to the profession in general, I must admit I don't find it
gripping reading and the print does blur a bit, so I probably miss some
things I should read.
However, of the responses I have read so far only Paul has seemed sure of
his ground. Readers of this list are likely to be more interested/active/up
to date than some within the Society. Perhaps we should address the issue of
internal communication sometime...?
Lunchtime's over and I had better abandon this, interesting as it is, and
get something done, even if it is Friday.
Have a good weekend, everyone.

Now in my personal capacity
Miriam, Nigel and everyone else
I am almost convinced that the information about RMSOA has been in the SoA
Newsletter. I am 99% convinced that it has been covered at a London Region
meeting, presumably via a report on the business of Council or the relevant
sub-committee.
As people seem to be in feisty form at the moment, could I join in with the
I hope not too controversial comment that information such as this is or
should be made available at regional meetings of the Society, and it behoves
all of us who are members to attempt to attend these meetings to get this
information. At least occasionally. And certainly to actually read the
regional mailings. And if not, not to say 'why wasn't I told?' too often.
These are not meant to be personal comments re Miriam and Nigel of course.
I declare an interest as I used to be a Regional Secretary, but I think
London colleagues will agree that meetings can also be fun.
We have been here before on the list, so I'll shut up now.
