Two points made in haste.
1. I'm sure Paul didn't mean to imply that the
postgraduate programmes exclude members of the ethnic
communities! At the last meeting of FARMER (Forum for
Archives and Records Management Education and Research) we
had a meeting with Professor Lola Young of Middlesex
University and heavily involved with CASBAH about how
the profession and the courses might actively recruit from
minority sectors.
2. In response to Maria, students do get funding, and
over the last three years all courses have received more
awards from the AHRB than ever before. All of our intake to
Liverpool this year (they start tomorrow!) either have AHRB
or Scottish awards (unless international of course). It's
not enough, but is more than it was. The courses also have
a capacity problem - we can only take so many with our
current resources.
There are big issues for the profession here, which need
more formal discussion.
