Yet again I am in need of a temporary Archives Assistant, as my excellent
temp is leaving for a full-time job and I don't seem to be able to find a
permanent person (to those who have applied, we are waiting for you to get
back to us....).
If any of the other excellent persons who applied last time (I almost had to
toss a coin to decide between you all) are still available for 2 days per
week can you get in touch with me at this address or phone 0207 772 6277?
Anyone else who is interested please do the same - I'm thinking of starting
my own temps data base!
For anyone else who may be interested in the permanent position, the job
description follows. I know the pay is poor, but the lunches and conditions
are good (the pension plan, for example, is excellent) and the work is
varied and interesting:
ROYAL COLLEGE OF OBSTETRICIANS AND GYNAECOLOGISTS
PART-TIME ASSISTANT TO THE COLLEGE ARCHIVIST
The College is seeking an assistant to the College Archivist. The post
would suit a graduate archives student or a graduate considering a
professional career in archives who would like to gain some practical
experience in a small specialist archive. The work involves a wide range of
duties including filing, copying, shelving, updating finding aids, answering
queries from staff and researchers and managing the semi-current records
held in the Archives. Although much of the work is of a routine and mundane
nature, there is considerable variety and scope for a person with
initiative. The assistant will frequently have to work without supervision
and will at times be responsible for running the office.
The College will pay £7. 48 per hour for two days per week; hours and days
worked are flexible. Free cooked lunch, tea and coffee are provided.
For an application form and job description please contact the Personnel
Officer, Rachel Henderson, Royal College of Obstetricians and
Gynaecologists, 27 Sussex Place, London NW1 4 RG (telephone 0171 772 6264).
