Hello,
Can I draw you all to the Dept of Health website -
http://www.doh.gov.uk/scg/childplan.htm
and especially the section on Looked After Children & the Quality Protects
Scheme
http://www.doh.gov.uk/qualityprotects/index.htm
click on 'Circular' in the orange Stop Press! box
This guidance is issued jointly by DH, DfEE, DETR, HO, DCMS, HMT and Cabinet
Office. It is intended for local councils, the NHS and other statutory and
non-statutory agencies - it may have slipped thru your Department, especially
if you are not local authority funded, but there is a specific reference in the
Quality Protects Guidance:
para 36.
'Participation in leisure, the creative arts and sport is important in
supporting the achievements, development of talent and citizenship of young
people. We ran taster projects in Galleries and Museums to promote young
people's achievement and participation in the creative arts. Feedback from
councils and young people who took part was extremely positive and we hope
every council will develop activities with their local gallery and museum in
2002. We will be providing some toolkit guidance notes to assist you.'
Hopefully you have started getting loads of phone calls from your local Social
Services Dept .... if not, why not get in touch with them? whether you're local
authority or not
DoH supporting museums, big smiles all round, whatever next .... but.... sorry
to my library and archive colleagues, you're not mentioned - can anyone from
DCMS/ Resource reading this get onto DoH about this?
