And the Society might have more justification for getting snotty with
the listowners if it was consistant itself.
I know of one case where an institution putting together a HLF bid
approached the Society for advice. It received a hand-out including a
statement that most archivists are paid in the range £13,000-17,000.
Having budgeted accordingly, the grant being given, the institution was
more than a little miffed to be told that the Society wouldn't accept
their advert.
Advertising is practically the last stage in creating a post - the
Society should be giving sensible advice at the early stages instead of
getting precious when it's too late to change anything.
