Many thanks to all those who responded to the query on the Rozan
de-silvering process. The query was really outside the remit of the two
discussion lists to which it was posted - arch-metals (the archeometallurgy
list) and mining-history - and does highlight the fact that there is
currently no academic discussion list covering the recent history of metal
processing.
The proposal is for a discussion list covering research into the history of
metals, the processing of metals and the history of metallurgical science
using documentary and other archival sources. It is intended that the list
would be established at 'JISCmail' as part of the JISC funded communications
within UK higher education. There would, however, be no regional boundaries
set in relation to discussion. All aspects of the documented history of
metallurgical development would be covered, from the medieval and early
modern non-ferrous industries through to the impact of developments in the
iron and steel industry on international economies in recent times.
