MEDICAL STATISTICIAN
Cancer Screening Evaluation Unit (CSEU)
The Cancer Screening Evaluation Unit is part of the
Epidemiology Section of the Institute of Cancer Research,
which is an associate institution of the University of
London.
The work of the Unit includes large-scale, long-term trials
of screening for cancer sites where it is not yet of proven
benefit; the evaluation of existing screening programmes
by developing methods to assess their performance and
effectiveness; and studies looking at specific aspects of
screening or the natural history of disease. The Unit's
current work includes studies on breast, colorectal, cervical
and prostate cancer.
We have a vacancy for a statistician to work on a number of
the Unit's projects including a multicentre trial of the value
of starting to screen women for breast cancer at age 40,
and a trial of screening for large-bowel cancer.
The post would be suitable for someone with an MSc in medical
statistics or a similar discipline. The post will involve data
management, analyses of trial data, and statistical
modelling of cancer incidence and mortality data. There
will be the opportunity to become involved in other
research studies undertaken by the Unit, including work on
methodological issues related to cancer screening.
This is a full-time post, and is available for 3 years in the first instance.
Salary : £19,027 - £25,525 p.a. inclusive (pay award pending)
