RESEARCH POSITION IN MODELLING SPATIO-TEMPORAL FORESTRY DATA
Freiburg is located in the south-western part of Germany at the
edge of the Black Forest, close to France and Switzerland.
For this post it will be required to develop statistical
methodology for analysing spatio-temporal forestry monitoring
data. The post is funded by the German Ministry of Education and
Research and is based in the Freiburg Centre for Data Analysis
and Modelling (http://www.fdm.uni-freiburg.de). The candidate
will be working in close collaboration with scientists at the
Forest Research Institute of Baden-Wuerttemberg in Freiburg.
Statistical and biological questions and points to be addressed
in the project include:
- Estimation of the temporal trend of the tree health status in
Baden-Wuerttemberg.
- Investigation of the biological processes causing tree
deterioration.
- Development of a spatio-temporal model.
- Improvements of the current monitoring sampling design.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in Statistics, Mathematics
or Physics with postgraduate qualifications and some background
in at least one of the following areas: geostatistics, spatial or
spatio-temporal statistics.
Funding is available for 3 years. The salary is at the appropriate
point on the BAT IIa scale for research staff (depends on age and other
factors, ranges between DM 5000 - DM 7300 per month).
