...ICNARC was set up in 1994, as an independent charity (registered:
1039417) to foster improvements in the organisation and practise of
intensive care in the UK.  ICNARC runs a national, comparative audit of
patient outcome which has led to the development of a high quality,
clinical database of intensive care and high dependency care patients
(currently 75,621 admissions to 102 units).  ICNARC is also involved in
a broad range of nationally funded research building on the database.

ICNARC requires an experienced Statistician to coordinate the provision
of statistical services within the Centre.  Duties include:
· design, specification and planning of data analyses from the database;
· performance and supervision of data analyses from the database, to
include interpretation and dissemination of results;
· preparation and production of scientific publications and reports for
ICNARC;
· presentation of audit and research results on behalf of ICNARC at both
internal and external scientific meetings and conferences;
· response to statistical queries relating to analyses, reports or
scientific publications generated by ICNARC;
· provision of advice on data analysis and statistics for ICNARC staff;
· statistical input and advice on all funded research projects within
ICNARC, to include participation in Steering Group Meetings;
· statistical input on design and enhancements of new and existing
reports for ICNARC;
· design, development and preparation of research proposals for
submission to grant giving bodies on behalf of ICNARC;
· day-to-day management of research projects successfully funded within
ICNARC, to include input on recruitment and supervision of research
staff.

Applications are invited from candidates who have an MSc or PhD in
Medical Statistics; experience in the analysis of large datasets and a
good working knowledge of standard statistical software, for example
SPSS, STATA and SAS; the ability to express technical information
clearly to a wide range of people through both written and verbal
communication; the ability to plan actions to accomplish goals
systematically, including establishing time-frames, allocating
resources, and following up on details.
