S-PLUS Fundamentals is designed for not only for those new to S-PLUS,
but also for those who have some previous experience. Beginners can take
this course to get up and running in S-PLUS, while experienced users can
"fill in the gaps" of their knowledge . The course will expose users to
essential
S-PLUS functions.
Course Description:
This four day course covers the basics of S-PLUS for Windows with an
emphasis
on using S-PLUS to analyse data. We will cover the fundamentals of the
Graphical
User Interface (GUI) and the syntax of the S-PLUS command line. We will
explore
the tools for data analysis, including powerful and flexible graphics
functions as well
as several of the most common statistical procedures. Upon completion of
this course,
every participant will have a strong foundation for becoming a
successful S-PLUS user.

Course Objectives:
Upon completing S-PLUS Fundamentals, course participants will know how
to:
Import and edit data in S-PLUS
Manipulate and create new data using the GUI
Create and customize several different kinds of plots (including scatter
plots, histograms, boxplots, Q-Q plots, etc.)
Create Trellis graphs
Compute summary statistics
Fit and evaluate linear models
Customize toolbars and menus
Understand the basic syntax of operators and functions of the S-PLUS
command line
Manage projects with S-PLUS
Course Format:
The course will consist of both lecture and hands-on instruction. Laptop
PC's will be
provided to all students during the length of the instruction. Training
manuals will also
be provided during the course. These materials will be yours to keep.
