The Institute of Medical Biometry and Medical Informatics
http://www.imbi.uni-freiburg.de <http://www.imbi.uni-freiburg.de> at the
University Hospital Freiburg is involved in both theoretical developments of
statistical methodology and applications of statistical methods in medical
research. It is now hosting three departments, besides Medical Biometry and
Statistics there are departments of Medical Informatics and of Quality
Management and Social Medicine.
There are cooperations with nearly all areas of medicine and beyond that.
Besides teaching and statistical consulting, major activities are
concentrated in the field of clinical trials; the "Methodisches Zentrum"
serves as a data and statistical centre for national and international
multicentre clinical trials mainly in oncology. The institute is also
hosting the German Cochrane Centre promoting the ideas and practice of
evidence-based medicine. Since many years, there is also a cooperation with
colleagues from mathematics, physics, biology and informatics in the
"Freiburger Zentrum fur Datenanalyse und Modellbildung (FDM)". In July
2002 we will host the next meeting of the International Biometric Society
(http://www.ibc2002.uni-freiburg.de <http://www.ibc2002.uni-freiburg.de> ).
We would like to complement our team of about 20 scientists with a
BIOMETRICIAN
experienced in statistical model building, mainly concerning the analysis of
longitudinal data. For the main project we have excellent data on quality of
life measurements in several dimensions over time. Data were collected from
about 1000 patients in a randomized trial to compare chemo - with hormonal
therapy in patients with breast cancer. Although work on this study will be
the main focus of the project more general methodological developments for
the analysis of longitudinal analysis are also welcome.
