[Message forwarded on behalf of Byron Morgan]
Dear Colleagues,
Please find attached (and below) an advertisement for MSc/MPhil degrees in
statistics. The main emphasis, as you can see, is on the 6 courses that
receive EPSRC funding. However we also publicise the blue book, and the
RSS careers booklet. We would be very grateful if you could bring this
advertisement to the attention of your relevant final-year students, by
email and other routes.
Thank you for your help in this,
Byron Morgan

MSc/MPhil in Statistics
A career in statistics can be very rewarding, and provide
graduates with a wide range of fulfilling opportunities, from
working in Government, and possibly advising Ministers, to
testing new drugs in the pharmaceutical industry, to examining
the effects of climate change on the survival of wild animals,
and so forth. A new extensive booklet, describing
possibilities in some depth, is available from:
The Royal Statistical Society :
12 Errol Street,London, EC1Y 8LX, UK. Tel:+44(0)207638 8998,
Fax +44(0)207256 7598, E-mail:[log in to unmask],
and at the URL : http://www.rss.org.uk/careers/index.html
Some employers require new staff to have studied statistics to
the MSc/MPhil level at University. The range of such courses
in British Universities is large, as can be appreciated from
reading the booklet describing these courses, available from:
The Secretary
Department of Probability and Statistics
University of Sheffield, Sheffield S3 7RH, England.
and at the URL http://www.shef.ac.uk/~pgstats/
The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council has a
new Masters Training Package initiative, and as a result, an
increased number of flexible grants are NOW AVAILABLE for
study at the MSc/MPhil level at 6 British Universities. These
are :
Cambridge, Kent, Leicester, Reading, Sheffield. Southampton.
For further information on any of these courses you should
consult the material available on the world wide web at the
URLs listed at the foot of the page.
The grants are available for students in the UK or elsewhere
in the European Union. They will pay the students' tuition
fees, and for UK students may also include substantial living
expenses. Grants to cover the fees of individuals studying by
distance-learning are also available at some of these
universities. Thus these courses of study are financed quite
differently from undergraduate and MMath programs.
The 6 Universities listed above expect to allocate their
grants over the next few months. So, if you think you might be
interested, now is the time to make enquiries.
Detailed information on the 6 funded courses can be found at
