Dear Allstat,
I am helping to design a comparative study that looks at menstrual symptoms.
To do this we wanted to use a recognised validated questionnaire and
decided that the MDQ version c was the best as this looks at all the issues
we are most interested in.
The questionnaire is split into a number of sub-domains (6 I think) like
well-being, water retention, negative effect. Overall we do not expect to
see a clinically significant change from pre to post treatment as some
domains are known to be worsened by the treatment, we are mainly interested
in three of the sub-domains.
Originally the primary endpoint was to be set up to use the whole score,
however, it's been suggested that, as we are mostly interested in three
particular domains, that the primary variable should be based on an
improvement in these areas rather than the overall score (this could be a
secondary endpoint.
Does anyone know of any references on the advantages and disadvantages of
using parts of validated questionnaires as pimary endpoints rather than the
whole score.
Thanks
