IMPERIAL COLLEGE OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND MEDICINE
ST MARY'S CAMPUS, PADDINGTON, LONDON
TWO RESEARCH STUDENTSHIPS IN STATISTICAL GENETICS
Two BBSRC-funded studentships are available to suitably-qualified EU
residents. Both are for 3 years, starting as early as practicable in
2002. The successful applicants will be based within the new
Statistical Genetics group in the Department of Epidemiology and
Public Health.
* Project studentship: Investigating the Genealogies of Small
Populations. Supervisor: Professor David Balding, in collaboration
with Dr Mark Beaumont (School of Animal and Microbial Sciences,
University of Reading). The research will involve computational and
statistical methods, and will be applied to problems in conservation
genetics.
* Quota studentship, available for any of a range of topics within the
area of statistical genetics. Supervisor: one or more of Dr John
Whittaker, Professor David Balding, Dr Clare Marshall, Dr Nicky Best
or Professor Sylvia Richardson. Current interests of the group include
population genetics, quantitative genetics, computational and spatial
statistics, gene expression analysis, molecular evolution.
The studentship covers tuition fees for EU residents. For UK residents it
also provides a tax-free living allowance starting at £10,500 per annum.
Applicants should normally have a strong first degree (UK 2.i or
equivalent) in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a
biomedical science with a strong quantitative content. An MSc in a
relevant discipline would be an advantage.
