Genetic epidemiologist/statistician
This position is to work on a collaborative project using data from the MRC
Ely cohort study and the Cambridgeshire Type 2 diabetes case-control study.
The group led by Dr NJ Wareham in conjunction with Professor S O’Rahilly
(Department of Medicine and Clinical Biochemistry, University of Cambridge)
and researchers from Incyte Genetic are investigating the association of
candidate genes with quantitative traits related to insulin resistance and
glucose intolerance. The Ely study is part of the Cambridge MRC co-operative
group studying gene-environment interactions on chronic disease.
The post holder will work in the growing diabetes epidemiology research
group in close liaison with other genetic epidemiologists within the
Institute of Public Health. He/she will work closely with our existing
statistician in developing and analysing studies across the group’s
programme of research, but will also have an opportunity to develop
methodological studies within our remit and the interests of the candidate.
Ideally applicants will already hold an MSc or PhD, or expect to obtain one
by the start date, in epidemiology, statistics or a related field. An
interest and/or experience in statistical genetics or epidemiology is
desirable. Knowledge in using statistical software, e.g., SAS, or S-Plus,
SPSS, or Stata, is essential. The successful applicant must be able to work
effectively with a collaborative team as well as independently.
The 3-year post is funded at Research Assistant/Associate level according to
experience and attracts a salary of between £16,775-25,213 (pay award
pending) dependent upon age and qualifications. Starting date: September
2001.
Hours/Holiday
37 hours per week / 35 days (including 8 public holidays)
