Dear All,
In my organisation, we prepared questionnaires and sent them out in order to
check the needs of the respondents in regard to their personal and professional
development and so as to devise an action plan.
With this in mind, we have collected a number of different information derived
from the responses. We are interested particularly in checking whether
personal and professional development is more useful to those who have
relatively few years in the post. In other words, would this assistance be more
important to those with relatively few years in post? To put still different,
how would we explore the strength of association between the responses to the
various questions asked with their length of time in post?
A illustration is supplied below. The collumn presents the length of time in
post whilst the row the question (both are in bold). The collumn headed as 0
(not at all),...,4 (a lot) reflect the view of the respondent for the
particular question, which is expressed in a qualitative
way (not at all --> a lot).
How useful was it to explore the components of the specialist role?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Time in Post 0 = Not at all 1= A bit 2 = Moderately 3 = Quite 4= A lot
Less than 1 year 1 0 3 26 0
1 - 3 years 0 5 14 28 2
3 - 5 years 2 4 8 13 0
Longer than 5 years 0 5 8 26 0
It seems that one possibility would be to compute the chi-square for this 4x4
table. I wonder whether or not this is suffice for it is rather seems to
simplistic. I also wonder whether the use of regression method would help or
not. If it would assist then what would be the estimator and how we would
define the dependent and independent variables. Would any graphical
presentation assist?
I would appreciate very much if you could assist me on this particular
instance. I would particularly keen to receive assistance regarding use of
parametric or/and non-parametric methods to deal with the above.
Thank you very much indeed for taking the time to consider my request. I look
forward to hearing from you.
Kindest Regards
Panos
