The second National Statistics Work Programme is now being developed.
It
will detail the main elements of statistical work programmes across
government for the years 2002/03-2004/05. A key feature of the work
programme is that it should reflect the needs of users and therefore an
important stage in compiling it is the user consultation process
currently
taking place.
National Statistics planning is co-ordinated by 12 theme working groups,
each taking responsibility for the work programme within their topic
area.
Each theme has compiled a consultation document covering its work plan
and
the nine that are available to date can be found on the National
Statistics

On Wednesday 31st October, National Statistics will be hosting a
one-day
Conference for non-government users of official statistics at the Forte
Posthouse
Hotel, Kensington, London W8. Users should apply early because places,
although
free, are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served
basis.
A buffet lunch will also be provided.
The first half of the day will be devoted to presentations by the Office
for
National Statistics senior management team on the strategic vision for
National
Statistics, and high-level plans for economic statistics, social
statistics,
methodology and e-Access.
The second half of the day will be for users to determine. Participants
may wish to present, via syndicate and plenary sessions, government
statisticians with
their own vision and requirements for National Statistics.
