1. At Lancaster we hold 16 degree ceremonies over five days in July for over
4000 undergraduates and their 16000 guests. Three degree ceremonies are held
on one day in December for about 1000 postgraduates and 3000 guests.
Timing in the Summer is very tight indeed with Exam Boards meeting as late as
the last week of term. The final programme goes to print after Senate on the
Wednesday before the first ceremony the following Monday. I am blessed with an
excellent database which provides me with seating plans for graduands, sorting
them into alphabetical order by degree type and allocating each one a ticket
showing their full name, degree, seat number and row in the hall. The graduand
is given this ticket to hand to the presenter on the platform - so no long
lists to check - no mistaken identity (unless the grads decide to swap!) and it
is quite fun watching the presenter trying not to drop 330 used tickets!
2. We run an information website and broadcast CEREMONIES LIVE - a great
success for those unable to attend the graduation of relatives.
3. I would be interested to have the details of how you are going to tackle
'on-line' ordering of tickets.
4. You will be very welcome to attend a ceremony at Lancaster. Summer, 9 - 13
July, 2001 Winter, 5 December, 2001.
Best wishes,
Diane
