I feel that the section on 'Removing Application' could be more
comprehensive, especially with regard to when the new CD-ROM cannot be
loaded as a result of an existing file not being deleted. The information
sheet sent with any disks during the year has provided more information than
the document.
I don't know if others have had the same problem, but we've had a lot of
problems when information has been exported and imported via an excel
spreadsheet. Maybe the document should highlight that there may be a problem
if data is entered this way.
I've not seen this on any of the documents passed to me, but I would find a
section on 'Frequently Asked Questions' useful. In particular:
- what to do when a programme changes name for the first year intake
- what to do if a programme changes UCAS/JACS code
- how to deal with programmes that have non standard academic years eg those
starting in Feb with 1 year covering 2 standard academic years, or those
that have a 46 week+ year (eg Nursing programmes)
- how to deal with programmes that have placement years eg clinical
placement required for professional registration purposes; entering one term
to cover the year is not possible.
Maybe this is more detail than you require for your feedback, but I'm sure
the SLC must get several calls from us covering the same query!

Subject: SLC Courses and Terms database - instructions
I have just been told that I will shortly be getting for comment a draft of
the user manual for the return of courses and terms for the SLC database. I
have to get comments back by noon this Friday (I have already grumbled about
this short deadline).
If any of you have any memory of any problems with last year's documentation
(or can check notes from last year), please let me have details by noon on
Thursday so that I can incorporate them in my feedback.
