No! Surely not!!!
Facetious remarks aside - here at Exeter we took a tough line across
the board. We received the SLC fees disk on 9 October, input the data
and issued bills to all undergraduate students by 16 October, with a
payment date of 27 October for the first half (second half payable on
16 Feb 2001). By this, we doubled our tuition-fee inflow in October,
and brought in some £2m about 6 weeks earlier than the previous year.
Students with provisional assessments, or no assessments for any
reason, were told to pay the first half by 27 October. We took the
view that students had to prove beyond reasonable doubt that it was
a delay by the LEA before we allowed any leeway, and even that was
kept to weekly extensions. All other excuses (late applications,
uncompleted tax assessments, etc) were treated as the student's
responsibility, and no extensions allowed.
