At DMU we have a fairly open policy to student files anyway. If the student
wants to see their file we let them. This goes with the caveat that nobody
should write anything for the file which they would not want the student to
see.
On the rare occasion a complaint reaches our Complaints Committee, the last
internal stage in our procedure, both sides and the Committee get the same
set of relevant papers. We see no reason to hide anything unless of course
it contravenes legislation eg DP Act by disclosing info about someone else
not involved.

Subject: QAA Complaints COP
Dear Colleagues,
In the QAA Code of Practice for Student complaints and appeals it is stated
that procedures should 'set out the entitlements and responsibilities of the
parties'.
We are in the process of updating our Complaints Procedure and I would be
grateful if colleagues could advise me of their institution's position
vis-a-vis the entitlement of various parties to see documentation etc
relating to a complaint.
With many thanks.
