I would be interested to hear if there are any rules/regs imposed in other
institutions in relation to calculators being used in exams.
At Salford calculators are allowed but students are advised that the
memories of pre-programmable calculators should be cleared.
Obviously not all invigilators have sufficient technical ability to check
that this is done and where lots of students use calculators this can prove
too time consuming to carry out.
It has been said that students in our Engineering Schools have to use very
sophisciated calculators in order to sit the papers and these are
programmable!
What do we do?
